Product Review: Sister Schubert's Dinner Yeast Rolls
If you are looking for a great yeast roll with a homemade taste then "Sister Schubert's Dinner Yeast Rolls" are the rolls for you. When I discovered the store was out of my favor
ite frozen rolls recently, I decided to give these rolls a try. I was having company and needed an easy roll. I was not disappointed.
A good yeast roll with a nice dinner simply cannot be beat. I love the fluffiness and lightness that a good roll offers. While homemade rolls are the best, who has the time? Sister Schubert's rolls make you feel like you have slaved over the process of making homemade rolls. While other good frozen yeast rolls have you thaw them and allow a few hours for rise time, these rolls have already done the work. The directions state to put them in a preheated over for 5-10 minutes. While they seemed to take slightly longer than 10 minutes, I was not disappointed.
They are light and fluffy, yet filling. Unlike many breads, this roll contains eggs. This added to their fluffy texture. I brushed butter on the top like the directions recommended. I was glad I did. They were so good I didn't think they needed any more butter. Others who were present when I served them did use butter, however.
The only downside to this roll is for those who are watching what they eat. Each roll contains 140 calories. They also have 4 grams of fat (one of which is trans fat) and 23 grams of carbohydrates (one of which is fiber). I ignored the nutritional information and indulged in two!
I had never heard of these rolls when I bought them at Meijers (a popular Super Target-like store in the Midwest). Their website has a list of what stores you can buy the rolls in, broken down by state (http://www.ssrolls.com/). Wal-mart Supercenters and Super Targets seem to be a nationwide retailer. They also offer online ordering.
Another great feature this roll offers is that you only bake as many as you wish.
A very surprising thing about these rolls was the quantity. While the bag claimed to contain 10 rolls, it actually contained 12! How many times does a company give you something for free? Not very often, these days.
