Harmony, California: The Little Town Struggling to Survive

Harmony California is a beautiful little town that is located in San Luis Obispo County. The closest towns to Harmony are Cayucos and Cambria. The elevation of Harmony is 175 feet above sea level.

The town of Harmony is so small that it only has one street and a population of 20 people. The town is surrounded by farmland.

Harmony started out as a dairy farm town in 1869. The town was productive until around 1955 when the dairy industry fell on hard times. This forced people to leave the community and find work elsewhere. Harmony has really struggled off and on to keep itself a thriving town since the mid 1970's.

Harmoney is slowly becoming a ghost town and is only being kept alive by the local astisans that have shops in the town. There is a shop that sells hand blown glass. Another shop that sells all kinds of art objects and then there is the Harmony Pottery Shop that sells beautiful handmade pottery and also sells other items like t-shirts. Also, helping to keep the town alive is the Harmony Cellars, which is a winery and tasting room. There is also a state park called Harmony Headlands that was developed to teach people about the land and to protect it.

Harmony did have a post office until mid 2008. At that time it was decided to close it, which the community did not go for. The community has been trying to get the post office to reopen.

When visitors come to Harmony that's what is keeping this little town going. By stopping and purchasing items from the artisans, or doing wine tasting, or visiting the state park it's helping their community stay alive.

Harmony is a very picturesque little town that has a lot of scenery that is just beautiful to look at and enjoy. It is a very unique small town with a lot of friendly hospitality. It could possibly be the smallest known town in California.
