Restaurant Review: Mexican Fiesta in Dearborn Heights, Michigan

Mexican Restaurant Serves Up Great Food at Reasonable Prices

Those of us who live in the Detroit Metropolitan area should consider ourselves very lucky to have a variety of ethic restaurants to visit. I have visited many of the local Mexican restaurants in and around our city, most of which have good food, but I
find Mexican Fiesta, located in Dearborn Heights, to be my favorite.

One of my favorite Mexican foods is guacamole and Mexican Fiesta has the best, in my opinion. Their guacamole is thick and rich, contains a perfect amount of spices and tomato. The price of the guacamole fluctuates with the seasons, but to me, it is worth it at any price. At the time of this particular visit to the restaurant, a small guacamole (2 oz) was $3.00 and a large (5 oz) was $5.00. A basket of hot chips ( additional $1.00) and Mexican Fiesta's own salsas, along with the guacamole makes for a perfect appetizer.

The restaurant offers many entrees and also ala carte prices. Tacos can be ordered with flour or corn shells that are either soft or fried. My preferred meal at Mexican Fiesta is the combination plate, priced at $7 for lunch and $8.50 for dinner. This entree comes with 2 beef and cheese tacos, a cheese enchilada, a tostada and a tamale. In other words, you get an awful lot of food when you order the combination plate, enough to have left overs to take home. On this visit, I substituted Mexican rice for the tamale. I have not tasted a better Mexican rice at any other restaurant in the Detroit area. The beef and cheese tacos are made with ground beef, not shredded like many restaurants use and are topped with a generous amount of cheese. The tostada is what I would consider large and is prepared with a high quality refried bean, ample cheese, lettuce and tomato topping. The cheese enchilada is my absolute favorite of this entree, stuffed with cheese and golden brown with a taste that is out of this world. Mexican Fiesta's rice is served in a heaping portion and is made with a tomato base and also contains bits and pieces of onions and green pepper. The rice is a great side dish to balance the meat and cheese dishes.
