A Cinematic Tour of Las Vegas

Las Vegas has been featured in many movies with big stars. Modern hits include Leaving Las Vegas, Oceans Eleven and What Happens in Vegas. If you want to see where some of Hollywood's best have filmed some memorable scenes, here is a guide.

Caesar's Palace has been filmed many times. Tom Cruise takes Dustin Hoffman there to use his amazing math skills to place bets in Rain Man. Oh, God! You Devil has several scenes with George Burns getting into things he shouldn't. The 1997 romantic comedy Fools Rush In with Matthew Perry and Selma Hayek was filmed there with romantic hijinks everywhere.

The Riviera has been a star in the first version of Oceans Eleven, with the rat pack of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis, Jr. when they try to rob a casino. The first Austin Powers movie was also filmed in the Riviera when Austin tries to outdo the bad guy at blackjack.

The second Oceans Eleven stars the entire city of Las Vegas including the Bellagio casino that they attempt to rob and the boxing match happens in the MGM Grand Hotel.

Honeymoon in Vegas starring Nicolas Cage and Sarah Jessica Parker was filmed mostly at Bally's Casino Resort. Cage's character flies over the castle-like Excalibur Hotel on the south strip.

Nicolas Cage must really love Las Vegas because he crashes a prison plane on the strip and chases down John Malkovich in a fire truck along the strip.

Walk down the Strip and seeing just about glitzy light show will bring back memories of any gambling movie and don't forget the famous sign "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas".

If you're not a high roller who likes to spend a lot of money then finding inexpensive hotels in Las Vegas may be hard to do if you want to take a cinematic walk down the strip. Also keep in mind that many hotels and casinos get demolished and new ones rebuilt, so casinos that may have been there in movies before could be gone.

The Desert Inn is one of those cinematic landmarks that does not exist. Demolished in 2000 to make room for another casino, the resulting casino was also demolished. The Desert Inn was one of the first hotels on the Strip when it was originally constructed.
