In the wake of the Don Imus controversy talk radio hosts are under heightened scrutiny. The most recent incident involves two talk radio hosts out of New York. The two allegedly made a prank call on the air to a Chinese restaurant that contained racial and sexual comments.

CBS Radio suspended the two after receiving complaints from an Asian-American advocacy organization. The incident occurred just one day after Don Imus insulted the Rutgers women's basketball team. "The Doghouse with JV and Elvis" played the call one week after the Imus incident.

The two can be heard hurling insults toward the person who answered the phone. One told the woman who answered the phone that the wanted to "come on your restaurant" to see her naked and referred to her body as "hot Asian spice" They order "flied lice" and brag that they know Kung Fu the hosts use profanity throughout the call.

The Organization of Chinese Americans has demanded an apology from the hosts and from CBS radio. President of the New York chapter, Shu Smolin, was quoted as saying, "I just see plain ignorance in the CBS management - of the community, of who we are, of what we're all about," She is calling for the hosts to be fired.

Jeff Vandergrift (JV) and Dan Lay (Elvis), the two accused hosts, have been suspended without pay until further notice. Vandergrift has issued an apology on air. This did not appease Smolin, threatening to boycott advertisers and protesting CBS radio, Smolin has told reporters that she wants the two to be fired.

There is no reference to the incident on the blog site belonging to the show. A visit to the site only results in blog entries and air time information. The is a cartoonish picture on the site showing a man who seems to be censored. Comments by listeners can be read by visiting the site.

Jv and Elvis are awesome... If the OCA actually took the time out to really find out what the DOGHOUSE was all about on and Off the radio, they would have realized very quickly that these guys are not racists. They make jokes on air and are trying to get a laugh out of people... To compare this prank call to hate speech is about as legitimate as having Al Sharpton determine what is offensive or "racist." This is just the age of politically correct idiots who instead of changing the channel/dial and letting a capitalist society as a whole dicate who stays and who goes... They complain and threaten people until they scare enough people to shut down shows. The Doghouse will be back... Hey OCA, why don't you check out some of the off radio charity work the guys have done before you accuse them of every negative stereotype in the book huh?? Oh yeah thats right you wouldn't do that because then you wouldn't get your 15 minutes of fame from every liberal News Station in America. Me

Thanks for the information. I haven't heard anything on this story. Also, I love your writings about Tennessee. As a native of Memphis and spending about 2-years living in Nasville. Your articles brought back memories of home. Great writing.
