What's the difference between an Irish wedding and funeral? One less drunk! How do you sink an Irish submarine? You knock on the hatch! Irish jokes are always funny, and whether its making fun of potatoes or 4 leaf clovers, you can expect to get in a brawl. I'm of Scottish descent, and I admire the Irish wholeheartedly, as they also have a fondness for drinking and fighting. They also wear kilts as well, as the sheep can hear a zipper from a mile away!

I've always been fond of the Irish, because my adopted aunt was of this background. She was tough, had a warm heart, and I miss her dearly. While Ireland, nor the rest of Great Britain is known for their cuisine, Bennigan's has decided to go with an Irish theme. There restaurants are decorated with Irish costumes, pictures, potatoes, and musical instruments. There is green everywhere, and of course there's plenty of beers on the menu. Most of the food items have a Irish name to them, so expect to start every order with a "O'".

Bennigan's has been around since the mid-1970's, and they have many franchise locations all over the globe. They can usually be found at major shopping malls, and have an extensive menu at each of their establishments. If you want to get an idea of what they offer, you can always check their web site at www.bennigans.com. Just be warned to turn the volume down, because as soon as the site loads, you will be greeted by loud guitar music. Spouses do not appreciate this at 3 in the morning, as I can attest to this from the living room couch. Their web site isn't that great, but it shows what they serve, and you can order gift cards from them. You can also complain or compliment them on line, or write to them at: Guest Relations, 6500 International Parkway Suite 1000 Plano, TX 75093. If you would like to save a tree, consider calling them at 1-800-LV-SHEEP. Oops, thats my favorite phone number. Its actually 1-800-727-TELL, and press option 2 for a live humanoid.

Terrific article, Dickie! I remember the first Bennigan's I visited, back on Spring Break, for St. Patrick's Day, in 1980 in FLA. Unfortunately, they're not up where I live. But guess what? It's 28 years later, but looks like I'm spending St. Paddy's Day in Orlando this year. I was thinking of trying out Bennigan's again, and your well-researched & extensive article makes me think it's a good idea. Will be interesting to see how they've changed. I really appreciate all the information you listed, and I even remember how good their cheesecake was back from my first visit. I'll have to watch the Bass Ale (I'm a fan of that, too!) and save room for dessert. Your article couldn't have been published at a more perfect time for me! Thanks, Kim PS I like how you spoke about the bad server, but of course that can happen. You didn't slam the whole place for one bad apple. Once again, terrific writing!
