The musical is based on the 1999 best-seller "Aretha: From These Roots." It's tentatively set to premiere in Detroit, Aretha Franklin's Hometown in March 2008. Aretha Franklin who was born on March 25, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee and is 65 years old is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, winner of 17 Grammy awards, has sold millions of singles, became America's first soul superstar of the '60s and is a very popular star, loved by millions of people in the US. Aretha Franklin will assist in choosing the performers who will portray her at various ages, also relatives, close friends, background singers, and musical colleagues including Sam Cooke and Smokey Robinson.
