There is No Such Thing as Pro-Life or Pro-Choice

I find it hard to take Pro-Life and Pro-Choice activists serious for one important reason - I think the euphemisms are completely unnecessary. Now, this isn't an absolute reason, because each label, Pro-Life and Pro-Choice, are complicated collectives of a wide variety of informed and uninformed opinions that are about as outdated as the religious motivations of each side.

Because the arguments against Pro-Life activists seem heavier and more complicated on the surface, I will focus on Pro-Choice activists first.

My biggest problem with sitting on the Choice side of the fence has more to do with the word itself - CHOICE. While, technically it is an accurate representation of their beliefs, I don't believe that it paints a concise picture.

Are we taking a test for biology or are dealing with a delicate human life?

It's also important to remember that Choice doesn't really reflect a choice; it's an advocate for the legalization of abortions. I've not ever considered an abortion nor do I ever imagine I will, but I think it's important to rally for the women who take that difficult journey into what these so-called Life activists consider Hell.

I admire any woman who has the courage to stand up for herself and get an abortion. It takes a lot of strength and confidence to take the trip. Until you've experienced it yourself, you have absolutely no idea what it's like to fear becoming a mother. Raising a child is one of the scariest things I've done in my life, so I empathize with any woman who has had an abortion.

Keeping that in mind, remember that it really is no choice to get an abortion. In some cases, it's a sacrifice and in others, it's being responsible and intelligent enough to do what's right for your body and mind. The fetus probably won't care anyway.

I used to be Pro-Choice. I am now Pro-Abortion.

What about the Pro-Life activists?

Ummm. Wow Tina. This is an incredibly powerful & controversial piece. Kuddo's to you, for having the strength to put your views out there for the world to see. I admire your courage, and whether or not I agree, I have the utmost respect for the manner in which you've presented your case.

Suppose there were a law permitting parents to kill their daughter if she ended up pregnant out of marriage. If I opposed this law on the grounds that that pregnant girl has the right to live, would you jump to the conclusion that I didn't care for her life at all and was merely trying to impose my moral code on her parents, who really SHOULD have the right to kill their daughter? I mean, hey, they're going to have to shell out extra money to pay for her as she goes through pregnancy, and probably end up buying a bunch of stuff for the kid; she'll be a continual burden on them. And the social stigma - phew! No parents should have to live through that. ...The truth is, the abortion debate collapses to a single issue: whether or not that fetus is a person with the right to live. Visit Stand to Reason at str.org and cut through the pointless arguments.

A whole lot of those on the "pro-choice" camp would consider themselves "pro-abortion", but they'll never say it. I believe the reason for the term pro-choice is only as a counter to the pro-life side. It wouldn't be considered very PC to call it pro-abortion, even if that's what it is. The pro-lifers would spin it out of control and just garner more support for their cause if the opposing side was seen as people who push abortion, and killing fetuses, as I'm sure they would say. Were there no opposition to abortion, then you could call it pro-abortion, but then we wouldn't need a term for it.
