Think about what life would be like without humor. Whether you choose to imagine a life led by strict religious doctrine, counting sins like a miser and his pennies, or just an existence void of laughter, stale and uptight: isn't the thought a rather mundane vision of darkness? Death occurs for all of us, thus it seems fitting or "healthy" to at least face it with a smile. Our time on Earth is limited, if you disregard any beliefs that we are recycled energy that will reincarnate endlessly, and the weight of our impending death along with other stresses can be a frustrating burden. Depression in its truest form sucks a person in without warning. Personally I have experienced the sort of betrayal and heartbreak that sours ones guts permanently. I've found myself in mental anguish more time than I have fingers and devised many suicidal plots, complete with poem laced noted crude strangulation methods. Criminally, there have been thoughts on days so dark that I could identify with the most desperate of individuals willing to kill someone just to get change for a soda. However, I have never popped a pill or paid for a shrink's interpretations and to this day I live on with purpose. To thank for my existence I have my sense of humor. Conan O'Brian, South Park, and all daily influences of giggling cheer have brought joy to my life. There isn't a moment when a person should feel like they should shut out this sort of inspiration. Even as serious as things get life will remain funny and a good laugh won't get you down.
In the not too distant past I wrote an article in which I theorized that the mass shootings of Virginia Tech college were to blame for Sanjaya being voted off of American Idol. The article was a serious example of how I saw the fluctuation of media coverage and the subsequent action of the television viewing public. However, my article compelled many to message me with hateful tones and accuse me of making a joke out of the 33 deaths which occurred. My response devised for said accusations was that if I were making a "joke" it would have read something more along the lines of:
Knock, Knock /(who's there?)
