Nowadays, Foreign Language Classes are required in nearly all Highschools (usually 2 years) and Colleges (usually 12 credit hours). However, not everyone is takes easily to learning a foreign language. These are some tips I've gathered from teachers and classmates over the years; I started learning French my freshman year of highschool and am now taking 3 and 400 level classes at my college. These tips are for EVERYONE! If you're having trouble with your class, these may help you succeed a little better. If you're already doing well in your classes, then these will increase your proficiency a great deal and boost your active vocabulary. As I myself am a French minor, that will be the language I refer to in my tips, but of course these work for any language :).

1. The first thing you need to understand is that (with the exception of those geniuses with insane memory power) it's necessary to study a little bit every day to become and stay proficient. When I was in highschool, I devoted 30 minutes a day to studying, going over note cards and the like. Now that I'm in the advanced level, I watch french news and movies (without subtitles; I'll add a note at the bottom about using movies to increase your hearing abilities) and read the french newspaper (offered by many colleges) and novels.
