The tobacco business giant R. J. Reynolds' nephew Richard S. Reynolds worked for his uncle in the start of his career manufacturing the foil made of lead and tin used to line the cigarette box. In 1919, Richard Reynolds started his own business basically doing the same thing, but added supplying candy companies to his tin-foil business. He named his company U.S. Foil Co. and early in his career when the price of aluminum had dropped, he had changed to a new lightweight metal in the 1920s. It wasn't long before the name was changed to Reynolds Metals and they started producing new things like aluminum sidings, kitchen utensils, cookware, and boats. It was in 1947 that Richard developed the Reynolds Wrap we know today as the first aluminum foil capable of sealing in moisture and producing heat quickly, and it wasn't even a quarter of an inch think. Now that you have a history on where the famous Reynolds Wrap got its start, you can probably see how this simple product could have so many uses. It stands out in inventions as it was not tied down to one use, although it's mainly thought to be used for cooking. With this product you can:
Clean starch off an iron by replacing clothes with a sheet of Reynolds Wrap and running your iron over it as you would a shirt.
Store wet paint brushes by wrapping them in a piece of aluminum foil and placing them in your freezer. Before painting again, give the paint brushes an hour or more to defrost to have a great convenient way to store them.
Catch messy foods in your oven by simply placing a piece of aluminum foil under the baking pan and on the oven rack. However, lining the bottom of your oven with foil could cause damage so it's best to place it top of the rack.
