The Freak Accident That Claimed Her Left Leg
1. Heather Mills was crossing a street in London on August 8, 1993, when a speeding police motorcycle collided with her. The accident mangled her left leg, broke her pelvis, punctured her lung, cracked ribs and caused her numerous fractures. Mill's leg had to be amputated right beneath her knee. She also has a metal plate in her pelvis.

2. According to the show's website, Heather Mills was the very first competitor to have a prosthesis. She fell once during a dance, but overall, Mills did quite well. She competed for several weeks before being voted off. Mills managed to earn 24 points out of a possible 30 for dancing the Mamba and the Jive, and 23 for the Waltz and the Paso Doble with her partner Jonathon Roberts.
