We've all experienced it. You know, snide comments, public rebuke, and out and out false accusations. It stings, doesn't it? Unfortunately, the natural response to false accusations is to lash out, especially when there is absolutely no truth to the accusation. I suggest taking the high road instead. Here's how to do just that:

Determine whether or not to respond. At times it may be necessary to respond to a false accusation, especially if a lack of response may result in some type of negative consequence, such as the loss of a job. Other times it's best to just let it go. One positive benefit of taking the time to determine whether or not to respond is that time gives you an opportunity to get your emotions under control, which can help you do the next thing:

Defend in a calm manner. If you do need to defend yourself against false accusations, be calm about it. Keep your emotions under control. Losing your cool makes you look like a fool, but a controlled response will. . .

Allow the strength of your character to shine. When people hear bad things about you, they will wonder whether or not they are true. An unfortunate attribute of human nature is to believe gossip. However, if you are truly a person of character, that will become obvious to people over time. Although false accusations make it possible for your reputation to be tarnished for a short period of time, continuing to do the right thing will, in the long run, allow the strength of your character to shine.

Repay good for evil. Although I certainly don't do it perfectly, especially when being falsely accused, I do my best to live by the following words found in Romans 12:17-21, "Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. . . if your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." Following this advice will help you to never stoop to the accuser's level.

Takeaways
  • Defend yourself in a calm manner.
  • Allow the strength of your character to shine.
  • Repay good for evil.

Wow, Jake, why don't you tell me how you really feel. :-)

Adolf Hitler, a man who so much admired Martin Luther's vigor and the violent, powerful Catholic Church's rise to prominence by not merely fierce self-aggrandizement and propaganda but also by slaughter and slander unto all that which stood in contrast to it, styled his ideas after modelings of both. That's right, folks; good ol' Adolf was a darling of both European Catholicism and Lutheranism alike; he courted their favor as much as they courted his...right up until he wasn't very popular anymore, what when it became apparent that the world didn't, in fact, like genocide anymore. Refute it. This is your christian history. Here are your roots. Predatory. It's woven into the very fabric of your faith. Refute me. If you can.

# # Today Christians ... stand at the head of [this country]... I pledge that I never will tie myself to parties who want to destroy Christianity .. We want to fill our culture again with the Christian spirit ... We want to burn out all the recent immoral developments in literature, in the theater, and in the press - in short, we want to burn out the *poison of immorality* which has entered into our whole life and culture as a result of *liberal excess* during the past ... (few) years. [The Speeches of Adolph Hitler, 1922-1939, Vol. 1 (London, Oxford University Press, 1942), pg. 871-872] ;;Oh yes, there's more. So very much more.

"Reason is a whore, the greatest enemy that faith has." -Martin Luther --- "The multitude of books is a great evil. There is no limit to this fever for writing." -Martin Luther --- "Faith must trample under foot all reason, sense, and understanding." -Martin Luther ;; Now, wait, wait just one minute; this is the advice the man who fathered Lutheranism gave on the subject of education, learning and reason? Oh yes. If he'd had his way, no man, woman or child outside the clergy would have been permitted to learn how to count past ten. But wait, there's more! ->

->...we find that the corruption of the original church to have grown to such proportions that, when Pope Leo X granted approval for the sale and barter of indulgences; official church pardons from sin ("Get out of hell free cards") in return for contracted labor in rebuilding the Basilica, one Martin Luther got mighty peeved and wrote his famous '95 Theses', ultimately fathering the schism that divided christianity in two; Lutheranism and Catholicism. Wanna know what Martin Luther thought about a few things? Here ya go! ->

The Roman Catholic Church; the direct result of the the Nicene Council's solution under Constantine and the foundation of all denominations of Christianity that came thereafter from the loins of it's ideals, waxed so corrupt in the centuries that followed that it is held historically accountable for a little thing we shall simply refer to as "The Dark Ages"; I've neither space here nor time to fully enlighten you on that alone. Moving along...->

-> ...and there is simply no conscionable excuse for it. Your religion is, like it's equally demented sibling Islam, a thoroughly totalitarian cult that was quite set to fade into fable and myth when Emperor Constantine and the Nicene bishops collaborated on compiling the first orthodox rendering of the book you base your entire life on, which was titled the Nicene Creed. Want more? Here's more. ->

The documented evidence exists in every nook and cranny of the world around you, in every strata of society, on every psychological level of each individual indoctrinated into christianized thinking, or should I more correctly state, absence of thinking. Your ideals retard every aspect of healthy human development there is, from curiosity to independent thought to emotional maturity. Your methods create by force of bait-and-switch demand ("You're born evil, but wait, here's the one and only road to salvation!") emotional retardation of the most delusional variety ->

"Especially when there's absolutely no truth to the accusation" --Hah. Good one, there! I assert that christianity and it's body of followers have inflicted greater harm upon the world than ever they have wrought for the better. I assert that the dogmatic pursuit of psychological isolation, emotional entrapment and dependency upon the system in every convert by those doing the coverting is both predatory and psycho-socially damaging. You want proof?

Very well written. You make some excellent points.

Just for the record, I don't think a one-time occurance is suspicious...but when someone is repeatedly on the Top Rated page almost everyday with several articles that have no comments and just went live...I mean, do these people REALLY each have someone who waits for their articles to go up everyday and then uprates them? It has happened to me before, and I know other people to whom it happens occasionally. But there are some people to whom it happens all the time, no tjust once, and that is what I think people see as suspicious.

Great article! It applies to so many aspects of life. Thanks for the read, Rebecca.

Great article! I had this happen to me recently. 9 of my articles were suddenly uprated and appeared on the front page. The next thing I knew I was being falsely accused of having done the uprating myself. Here's the thing if anyone can do this, why do people automatically assume it's the CP writing the articles? It's wrong to accuse somebody without proof, anyone can uprate an article, anyone. Why would they? Maybe to create trouble, or maybe if they like your articles they think they are helping you. Either way, it should not automatically be assumed the CP in question is guilty.
