The FCC Whining to Congress..again

For whatever reason, the generations that came before us have not been able to pass on their legacy of tough love. Maybe it's because the media wasn't able to give us as broad coverage of the second World War as they are with the current situation in Iraq. Or maybe it's because when psychologists tell parents that spanking is unhealthy, those parents rejoice at the option of being lazy. The FCC isn't helping parents satisfy their role by pleading with congress to limit "excessive" violence. They haven't even figured out how to define "excessive" violence. The FCC should at least do its homework before rushing to action. But lobbying to Congress is usually successful if you're a big corporation or agency.
It is just impossible to change the channel these days. We have wireless remotes, v-chips, satellite television, basic cable, our own minds. But none of them work. At least, that's the approach we're taking and the one that the FCC is encouraging. And like always, they're whining to Congress to keep it that way.
In our modern time we have double income households, and for two parents to have jobs we must let the television do the parenting as it sees fit. There's no other way.
The recent Virginia Tech shooting is cited as the FCC's reason to limit the violence broadcast over the airwaves. It is a cheap shot to use a tragedy to serve the agenda of the agency, but it isn't a surprising move.
Every regulatory agency in the country thinks they know what's best for viewers. What's scary is that certain people actually believe in that principle. Now, when kids and teenagers and even adults act out, it's because of MTV or Grand Theft Auto video games. We came from tough love, somehow we've lowered ourselves to blaming everyone else possible for our problems. Maybe some of today's parents think they're being clever by blaming an outside source for the trouble their children cause and the headlines they make.
Let's carefully consider that logic, better yet, let's carefully review facts that don't make it to mainstream media.
