Court TV has recently posted on their website detailed e-mails that actress Lana Clarkson wrote to friends in the weeks prior to her untimely death. The e-mails speak of financial troubles Clarkson was experiencing due to having difficulty finding work, and also depict a woman who was "down in the dumps" and prone to depressed states.

These very e-mails have recently been argued in a motion to be admissible in court in the case of Calif. v. Phil Spector. Phillip Spector, 65, a prominent music producer well known for his work with The Beatles and The Ramones, was arrested for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson on February 3, 2005, two years after Clarkson was found dead in Phil Spector's mansion. Phil Spector is currently on trial for the murder of Lana Clarkson, and opening statements began yesterday.

While anyone that knew Lana Clarkson would describe her as anything but depressed or melancholy, these e-mails written by her are golden for the defense, which is suggesting that Lana Clarkson committed suicide in Phil Spector's home on February 3, 2003. In a 2003 interview with Esquire magazine, Phil Spector said that Clarkson "kissed the gun" and then shot herself, although he, "has no idea why."

While the e-mails that Lana wrote do not disclose the identity of the receiver(s), they are very detailed, and allow her personality and state of mind to shine through. In one email, after Lana expressed that her "major financial difficulties" make her feel "spent" and "worn out", she stated, "Anyway, I am normally such a happy positive person. Seems I am always in the dumps when you check in. Sorry about that." In the same email, Clarkson says, "I am looking into other gigs now that the flaky Manic Depressive music guy is no longer an option for employment." While some may describe Phil Spector as having those very qualities, we can only guess on whom Lana Clarkson was referring to.

Hello Moeursalen, I don't know if you will read this, but if you do, I'm sorry that I have not yet done a follow-up! I took a break from writing for a little while due to being bombarded with schoolwork. I also followed the Melanie McGuire case in NJ, and I am actually not 100% sure that Melanie murdered her husband. I wish that there was an email address where I could contact you so we could chat.

I found your story interesting. I am working on something similar. I watched the Spector trial a little on Court TV. I did a long story on the Melanie McGuire case in NJ, also. Big CourtTV junkie. Tell me what you think of it if you get a chance. Regarding this story, were the emails ruled admissible? There were some other interpretations of the emails, too, so now I wonder. I hadn't read the emails.
