Insomniac was founded in 1994 as an independent game developer and is now based in Burbank, California, home of Disney, NBC, and many other media companies. Insomniac has a massive fan following and has won consumer admiration for its inventive armaments and Its initial video game, Disruptor, made for the PlayStation console. This first-person shooter video game was released in 1996. The video game market has become much more lucrative with the power of personal computing and Playstation technology advancing.

Insomniac has released seven more video games in two releases for the PlayStation and again for the PlayStation 2. Insomniac is well received in the consumer and business quarter. After three Spyro games, the company went on to create the Ratchet & Clank series. Rachet & Clank games involve robots, flamethrowers, laser guns, and chainsaw opponents. A Ratchet & Clank game is about superheros that save the world. Its features have players collecting bolts and trading them for new weapons and strength and power upgrades.

The first version of Ratchet & Clank has the notable distinction of being the first Western-produced game to be sold commercially with the PS2 in Japan. The Ratchet & Clank game is intended for ages 8-12, a school age child. This is a learning type game that can lead a player to understand how to navigate levels, missions, and upgrades. Insomniac also markets games by releasing test versions of their video games or new modules online for fans to test and use out of the gate.
