Spiderman 3 : Very Ambitious
Visually "amazing" to Be Sure, but Maybe a Few Characters Too Much

This review was a very tough call on my part, as I was one of those people that said there was no way I wasn't going to like this movie, but ever since the cast and plot was announced, I also found myself somewhat uneasy about how they were going to find enough screen time to satisfy all the story content that the movie was going to have.
Tobey Maguire is of course back as Peter Parker/Spiderman, and writers Ivan Raimi and Alvin Sargent have given him plenty to deal with this time around. Director Sam Raimi has indeed taken all that Parker & Spidey have to deal with and created a visually "stunning" film with special effects that will have definitely questioning the fact of whether seeing is actually believing. However, the film has just a little too much story content and characters to fit into the two hour and twenty minute running time for me.
To give you some frame of reference, Peter/Spiderman has to deal with the advancement of his relationship with Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst), unresolved issues with former best friend Harry Osborne (James Franco), a new villain Flint Marko, a.k.a. the "Sandman" (Thomas Haden Church) who had some involvement with the death of Peter's Uncle Ben, a new photographer adversary at the Daily Bugle (Topher Grace) and a strange living black entity that seeks to bond with a host body with dangerous consequences and even a possible new romantic temptation in one Gwen Stacey (Bryce Dallas Howard) who looks stunning as a blond and strains Peter's relationship with Mary Jane.
All this is on top of his continued concern for his dear Aunt May (Rosemary Harris) and the guilt over his not preventing the death of his Uncle Ben (Cliff Robertson) at the hands of a small time thug that may not have been the one actually responsible for his uncle's death in the first place.
