Delicious Low-Fat Italian Gelato Ice Cream Shop

My new favorite ice cream shop is Dream Cones in Bangkok, Thailand. Dream Cones is a chain of ice cream shops that have, up until recently, only been in Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, Brunei and Malaysia, but now they're also in Thailand. And to that, I say "Hurrah". Dream Cones makes and sells low-fat Italian gelato ice-cream in more than 80 delicious flavors. With Dream Cones ice cream shops now in 15 locations in Bangkok, as well as Hua Hin, Pattaya and Udon Thani, Dream Cones is set to take over the Thailand ice cream world, and here's why.

The Dream Cones Shops - Dream Cones shops are the cutest ice cream shops imaginable. Decorated in a bright red, with black accents, the shops are vibrant, fun and very trendy. My local Dream Cones shop is at Bonne Marche Market in northern Bangkok. Situated on a lake, it has enormous glass windows all the way around the shop with a great view of the lake. Inside, it seats around 20 people in air conditioned comfort, with a large wooden patio outside seating about 25 more. The patio also has a cooling water spray, so it's quite cool out there too.

The Staff at Dream Cones - Well-trained and incredibly friendly, Dream Cones staff are helpful about menu choices. When my friend and I walked in, we were immediately given menus by the cute Thai girl working there, who also spoke quite good English. She told us which sundaes had which ice cream, how many other choices of ice cream and toppings we could get, and answered all our questions about the ice cream being low fat or soy. In northern Bangkok, it's often difficult to find anyone in a restaurant or cafe that can speak very much English, so it was lovely to find a friendly Thai girl who could.
