Saggy Pants and School Suspension

Your State Government at Work

You can call it stylish. You can call it a trend. You might be among those who call it "nasty" or downright "disgusting". But if the State Senate in Florida agrees with lawmaker Gary Siplin, a Democrat from the Orlando area, young Floridians may wake up to find
that it's also illegal. The "it " in this case is the baggy pants worn by school aged young people that reveals their underwear. The style has finally caught the attention of enough adults from a cross section of the state's voters to create an issue in search of resolution on a statewide level.

The Law and what it provides. The bill currently circulating in the Florida State Senate would make the wearing of baggy pants, worn at a level that reveals underwear, forbidden in public schools or while students are on any part of school property, this would include buildings and playgrounds. To be fair and to allow for judgment calls and time for students to adjust to the prohibition, the first offense would result only in a warning. If the offenses continue the school would subsequently exact first a three day and ultimately a 10 day suspension from school. The law puts the enforcement of these provisions squarely in the hands of school officials and in a sense asks for their cooperation to carry out its purpose.

DEAR PUNKS, OF COURSE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO WHAT YOU WANT, THIS IS AMERICA. I ALSO HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO AS I WANT. AS A BUSINESS OWNER, I DON'T HAVE TO ALLOW ANYONE IN MY ESTABLISHMENT THAT DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO WEAR CLOTHES. I DON'T HAVE TO HIRE ANYONE WHO DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO WEAR CLOTHES. AS A PARENT, YOU CAN WEAR YOUR CLOTHES THE WAY I SAY OR YOU CAN MOVE YOUR IGNORANT ASS OUT AND TRY AND MAKE IT ON YOUR OWN. FOR ALL WHO DON'T KNOW WHY THE PANTS ARE WORN THE WAY THEY ARE WORN, IT DID START IN PRISON AS OFFERING ONE'S SELF AS A 'WOMAN' TO OTHER MALE PRISONERS, BUT NOW, IT MEANS .' I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK AND THIS IS A FORM OF DISRESPECT TO YOU AND EVERYTHING YOU STAND FOR, SO YOU SHOULD JUST ACCEPT IT.' SORRY, NOT GONNA HAPPEN. LEARN HOW TO DRESS OR BE OSTRACIZED FROM SOCIETY. OH YEAH ..........AND HAVE A NICE DAY

We have too many 'big brothers' snooping in our personal business. Schools choosing to disallow baggy clothing is one thing. Provide uniforms if you want to dictate clothing. Laws on the state or Federal books are another matter. We have bigger problems in this society than sag. Focus on them rather than distract with scapegoats!

I've noticed that a larger percentage of the voices against this type of law can not spell, present themselves as many articles on this subject have shown - ignorant. Here's some information for all you "stylists" under the age of 18 - you are NOT an adult - therefore you do not carry our rights. You have parents. Which most of you ignore because you are cocky enough to think you can do it on your own. If this is the case then move out on your own and quit being a freeloader! If you think you are that smart then get out! However, since you can't have your cake and eat it too, if you choose not to move out because your big mouth moves before your brain could ever engage - then it's time to buck up and shut up. At least though I can say I have taught my sons not to dress like this. Gangs are not cool, they are losers. Why promote a loser image? So when they would wear their pants like this I would pants them first just at home and the one that didn't get the hint has had it done

This is a very ridiculous law! I believe that young kids (like me) have a right to wear what they want, HOW they want!
