Dining Out in the Restaurants of Ouarzazate
GesundheitSo I found myself charged with reviewing the top five restaurants in Ouarzazate, Morocco. I had some trouble pronouncing the name Ouarzazate at first, which didn't bode well, but finding out about the city's restaurant was a challenge I thought I'd enjoy. Here's what I found out on my tour of restaurants in Ouarzazate:
Kasbah Des Sables
This is certainly among Ouarzazate's most beautiful restaurants, with charming, intimate spaces, water features and understated decor. It's a little way out of Ouarzazate, on the way to Skoura. The menu verges on fusion, with authentic Moroccan classics cooked in innovative new ways. Lunch will set you back around 200 dirham, dinner around 300.
Douyria
Douyria is actually one of Ouarzazate's newer restaurants, and has an enviable location close to the Taourirt Kasbah and the medina. The dishes are mainly traditional Moroccan, expertly handled and served in a down to earth setting. There are two large dining areas and a patio, from where, on a clear day, you can admire the Atlas mountains. The a la carte menu is around the 250 dirham mark.
Chez Dimitri
Chez Dimitri joins the ranks of Ouarzazate's international restaurants, serving up Greek, French and Moroccan classics - the moussaka and duck breast are both excellent. One of the oldest restaurants in Ouarzazate, Chez Dimitri is right in the very middle of the city. It offers a splendid wine list, and the a la carte menu is priced between 200 and 300 dirham - a real bargain considering the quality.
Sultana Royal Golf
Sultana joins Chez Dimitri among Ouarzazate's international restaurants. Specialties include Italian, French and Moroccan - the pasta dishes are spectacular, and there are a number of equally good meat entrees on offer. It's around 20k away from Ouarzazate, near to lake El Mansour. It's one of the town's more refined restaurants, with tasteful furnishings. Expect to pay around 300 dirham
