Although the recent shooting rampage at Virginia Tech is certainly horrifying, it's not totally surprising. Even in this day and age of metal detectors and hidden cameras and shows like CSI and COPS playing constantly on TV showing us how hard it is, if someone wants to walk into a place like Virginia Tech and kill a bunch of people in broad daylight, they will. Homeland Security may be pledging safer streets but the truth is it's very difficult to stop a lunatic with a gun and a mission. Think of how many times in the past this same scenario has played out time after time on CNN. Each time it happens there's footage either from news crews or by someone inside with a video camera and everyone shakes their heads in disgust as they watch. Thousands log on to chat rooms and huddle around water coolers at work to vent their concerns and rage. And just when all the coverage of Virginia Tech fades away and the media frenzy focuses on the next Don Imus, Anna Nichole Smith, or President Bush popularity poll and we think its the last time it will happen, some fool with an assault rifle loads up on ammunition and storms a school or church.

And of course President George W. Bush pops up on television soon afterwards to put in his two cents. Although his comments may be heartfelt, it's a bitter pill to swallow coming from a president of his reputation. After all, he is an expert on the subject and knows all about college students being shot for no reason since he's already sent thousands of them to Iraq with the same outcome.

Did You Know?
Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Oh Really?
