How Much Can You Save?
Just about everyone saves change, but there are many ways to go about saving change and all have different results. Here are a few stories and tips on saving change.
There was one old man who had saved change his whole life and never spent it. He had saved every bit of change that he had form the age of 12until a few years after he retired. Because he never spent and never cashed in his change, he had barrels of change that took up most of his garage.
When he decided to cash in his change, he had 1.5 million face value in change. Because many of the coins were very old, and some were very rare coins, he wound up with over 2 million.
When I was a little kid, I knew this one guy that owned a duck pond in the carnival. For fun, he would actually light a $100 dollar bill on fire and throw it to the ground and watch people scramble to put it out. After a few months of watching this, I asked him how he became so rich. He told me that he would only break a dollar instead of using change and he would always put the change in a jar and save it. He also added a dollar bill to it every day. One day, he saved $25. He was in his 40's and worth over 1 million last time I saw him.
My fiance's dad keeps all of his change in a coffee can, when it gets full, he changes the change in for cash, usually about $200, and buys a gun with it. Usually, he has to keep saving change to buy the gun. Most of his guns usually take most of 2 cans, but he has had to use 3 and even 4 coffee cans full of change. Now he has dozens of guns for hunting and protection.
I also use the coffee can method of saving change. Every bit of change that I get goes into the can. When I can no longer add change to the can, I Cash the change out at the bank. Then I put the cash into the bottom of the can and start piling more change on top of it. then the cycle starts again. If I hadn't have done this, soon after I lost my job I would have been in bankruptcy, With careful spending, I have only just used up the last of my change just a few weeks ago. I have been out of a job for 10 months. I saved a ton of money.
