A Community of Love

Every town has something unique, but only special towns have an extraordinary secret. A secret so special and endearing that the locals never bring it up with outsiders. Some may have their favorite hotel or park, or even a fine dining experience--you know, those places in the attractions list that pop up on the first internet search for any given city. But no internet search would come up with the best-kept secret for our town. This secret can't be described in words, because it can be felt only in person. And I am not giving anything away by telling you. Come feel the love in Greenville's downtown.

Our Reedy River Falls park downtown boasts an impressive curved, cantilevered pedestrian suspension bridge (the only one of its kind in the United States) overlooking the water fall, perennial flower gardens, and numerous twists and turns in the path to secluded rooms of nature. But the best-kept secret in this park is our love you can see and feel. Grin but try not to stare as you walk around young couples hand in hand, oblivious to the surrounding beauty. Take a rest on one of numerous swinging benches, and listen as nature speaks her love in the sound of rushing water and sweet bird songs. Share the love with family over a charcoal-grilled hamburger picnic. From here you can also hear the love children have for water as they chatter excitedly while splashing.

Home to myriads of churches and consequently church weddings, let one of our local brides take your breath away as you catch sight of her rounding the corner from her dressing room to the sanctuary. Each special union sealed in our town is a message of love. If you are fortunate enough to be invited, join in the celebrations to follow downtown. Mary's Cottage and the open pavilion near Gunter Theatre on the Reedy are picture-perfect locations for outdoor receptions. Even our weather is loving and tends to bring sun-smiles to grace our joyous occasions.
