When considering the search, as an adoptee or a birthparent, there are some key issues which should be addressed prior. First, there will, undoubtedly, be an associated financial burden with the search even if the search is done through public records. For many adoptees and birthparents, finding a loved on is much like putting the pieces of a puzzle together. With each new piece of information, you are one step closer to the location and identification of the person you are seeking to find. But, with each of these pieces, often, there is a cost associated with obtaining the information.
In addition to the cost of documents, searching for an adopted child or a birthparent can also present a financial toll of a different kind; one that involves the need for psychological services in an effort to cope with the varied emotions associated with the search and find process.
For women, locating birthparents or locating an adopted female child can be a very emotional experience; far more emotional than any experience of their male counterparts. In fact, for the female adoptee, it is not uncommon for the search of birthparents, especially the birthmother, to begin soon after she has given birth to her own children.
