Yes, Even Virgins Can Get Infections Due to Sexual Contact

If you are a virgin, you may think you are completely safe from diseases that relates to sex. This may not be the case, if you are partially sexually active. What do I mean by partially active? In this case, a woman is technically a virgin but is still participating n sexual acts. The
acts that I am speaking about are oral sex and heavy petting.

We all know what oral sex is. We also know what is heavy petting. For these reasons, I will not go into all of that.

What I will try to explain is the fact that when a woman partakes in these activities she can increase her chances of acquiring a vaginal infection. How?

Two types of bacteria can form from hand to genital or mouth to genital contact. These bacteria are called Gardnerella vaginalis and atopobium vaginae. These bacteria can cause bacterial vaginosis (BV) an imbalance of the bacteria in a woman's body. Normally, a woman's vagina contains mostly good bacteria and some unhealthy bacteria. When a woman has BV she has an increased of the unhealthy bacteria.

About half of the cases of BV, show no symptoms. Yet, BV can ve serious. Studies have shown that BV can lead to miscarriages later in life as well as the woman having a greater chance of acquiring a sexually transmitted disease, even HIV.

Some symptoms of BV are:

an unpleasant fish like smell in the vagina

White or gray discharge

Burning during urination.

But remember 50% of the cases of BV do not show any symptoms. If you are showing symptoms and you are still a virgin, yet sexually active to a point, than discuss any symptoms with your doctor and share this knowledge with your doctor, also.

Is there a way from preventing BV:

be completely abstinent

Do not douche (yes douching alone can sometimes cause this infection)

Be observant, if your partner has any rashes or open sores, avoid contact

Limit your partner and make sure your partner is also doing the same. The more people your partner is with the more chances he or she becomes infected. This makes you more vulnerable.

Wash before having any sexual contact. Yet, remember soap and water can only do so much good. Germs still can penetrate through one's skin.

This is a great post! Unfortunately, our last president normalized oral sex amongst unmarried partners and in doing so gave younger generations the misconception that oral sex was not really sex at all.

Douching has also been shown to aid in causing cervical cancer. It is a totally unnecessary act that hinder the body's natural cleansing abilities. this is an American custom in place for no reason whatsoever than to line the pockets of companies like Eve.

Great information! So many teens think that if they are not having actual intercourse they are safe.
