Lemons and Cotton Candy

Explanation of Characters:

Ayanna Lives in a dorm room with Chaffee and has a boyfriend named Tremont.

Tremont is an athlete and has a lot of females after him.

Chaffee and Malinah are best friends. They don't like Tanisha and they try to start a lot of mess with her. Malinah lives in the same dorm, but down the hall from them.

Alex and Carlos live down the hall from them also.

Tanisha lives a few doors down from Malinah with Allison. Tanisha is a little loose. She's known as a "hoe" on campus. Ayanna is her only real friend.

Thomas and Eddie are roommates and they live two doors down from Alex.

Phase I

The play opens up with Ayanna sitting in her dorm room. She's watching something on MTV when her friend from down the hall, Tanisha, walks in.

Tanisha
Yanna, what are you doing in here watching TV. You know your "best friend" is having movie night right?

Ayanna
Nisha, I don't feel like dealin' with them tonight. So...have fun.

Tanisha
You know I don't wanna go in there by myself.

Ayanna
I thought Malinah and Chaffee were going?

Tanisha
Them yo' girls, not mine. The only person I'm cool with in there is Alex.

Ayanna
Well...he is the one throwin this "little party" right

Tanisha
But I don't want it to seem like I'm just in there just because it's in his room, because I usually don't even go to movie night.

Ayanna
Oh shit, yall get on my nerves

Ayanna puts on her house shoes and walks down to Alex's room with Tanisha. They walk in and sit on his roommate's be. He's gone for the weekend.

Chaffee
Aw...okay Yanna, I see what time it is. I thought you wasn't comin'? You let your best friend talk you out of it huh.

Ayanna
I need everybody to shut the hell up talkin' to me right now. I'm sleepy as hell.

Chaffee Laughs

Malinah
(Laughing) Bitch, what's wrong with you?

Ayanna
What's wrong with your face Linah? When you figure that out....

Malinah
Okay shut up! You need to take yo' ass to sleep for real.

Ayanna
Whatever

Tanisha laughs. Chaffee looks at Tanisha and turns to Malinah.

Chaffee
(Softly) Who was talkin' to that hoe?

They both laugh loudly.

Ayanna
Yall stop.

Tanisha
Anyway, wassup Alex? You know you stay on the phone. Get off so you can come watch the movie with me.
