Host a Fall Foliage Weekend in Croton Falls, NY

Autumn Entertainment in Westchester County, NY

Just over a decade ago, as I started business school, I met three fun, smart, sophisticated friends. Since then our lives have taken us in very different directions, yet every year we schedule time to get together for an annual girls' getaway. We usually meet in a big city or an exotic beach destination, however this year we decided to try something vastly different; this year I was nominated to host a "fall foliage weekend" at my new home in the quaint hamlet of Croton Falls, NY.

I was petrified; how could I possible entertain these three very sophisticated ladies in Croton Falls for an entire weekend? As it turns out, there is plenty to do with out-of-town guest in Croton Falls. Just take a peek at our weekend itinerary:

Arrival - Friday Evening:

Treat the girls to Bella Ella's. Located in Croton Falls' town center, Bella Ella's is amazing - even by New York City pizzeria standards! So on the first night that my friends arrived, we sat on my sun porch enjoying the crisp fall air, and then we ordered-up the sausage pie and a nice bottle of wine while we caught-up on girl time.

Saturday:

Soak-up the quaint beauty around Croton Falls. Those of us who live here may take it for granted, but truly we live in one of the most beautiful spots in the country. I wanted to treat my guests to a scenic tour, so after breakfast we laced-up our running sneakers and took an easy jog around the train station, over the foot bridge, past the Old Stone House, and around the famous Elephant Hotel - the birth place of the American-style circus. If running or biking is not your speed, a brief windshield tour is a must.

Enjoy apple picking and more at Outhouse Orchards. Just before lunch we headed to Outhouse Orchards (http://www.outhouseorchards.info/). We started in the store where we admired the fresh produce, campy Halloween decorations, breathtaking flowers and homemade fudge - Yum! (Hint: While in the store, pre-buy your apple picking bag ($20) to avoid being caught without enough cash when you purchase your bag at the orchards).
