Every seven years, the human body completely sheds the outside layer of its skin in order to regenerate a new layer. Coincidentally, the average person changes his or her thinking every seven years as well. So if we, as human beings, can be in a constant state of evolving, why not our homes?

Eventually, you get sick of looking at the same four walls that enclose you and the same décor you picked out years ago. It's time for a change, and springtime is the perfect time to do it.

Making over your home doesn't have to be expensive. It just takes a few simple changes to give it an entirely different feel.

Spring Clean Your Way to a Makeover

Dusting, scrubbing and Lysol-ing your way to a cleaner, more polished environment will make a huge difference before you even update your home's look. For example, you can create the effect of a newly re-tiled floor by just using a grout stain or bleach to match the grout to the tile.

Organization is Key

Nothing will kill a room's atmosphere like clutter and messiness. So if you want to give your home a much-needed facelift, the disorganization has got to be the first to go. Throw out what you no longer need or use and organize what stays. You can sort your belongings into stylish bamboo baskets or fabric-covered boxes which can instantly turn clutter into design pieces.

De-clutter your tables and floors by installing wall lamps. They are great space-savers because they instantly free up table space and can make a room look more spacious with less furniture in the way.

A Little Bit of Color Can Make a Big Difference

Decorate rooms with colors you love, whether it's warm, dark colors or light, airy colors. Whatever makes you feel comfortable and inspired is what you should use.

If you have a sofa in a solid color, you can brighten it up by adding a couple pillows with patterns or complementing colors. You can take a light-colored vase and place it in a dark-colored room to make an interesting contrast.

If you have metal window frames, you can paint them to match the window's moldings. Complement the paint with wood blinds instead of banal plastic, white ones. Just make sure you buy a paint that is made for metal.
