Alan Kasten, a 9 year old with Leukemia will be the proud recipient of a very special tree fort courtesy of the Michigan Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a nonprofit organization that grants wishes to children who have life threatening illnesses.

Make-A-Wish and Forever Young Treehouses, Inc. have teamed up to create the tree house of Alan's dreams. Alan's design, which he provided with his own drawing, includes multi levels.

Alan is a resident of Brighton Township where he lives with his two younger sisters, one younger brother and his parents.

Alan was diagnosed with leukemia in December 2005 . He has undergone a bone marrow transplant and has had marrow drawn from his bones via a long needle on numerous occasions.

According to his mother, Sally Kasten, the wish gave Alan something positive to look forward to during his months in and out of the hospital.

Public relations manager, Merideth Allard says the tree fort is scheduled to be built in the next few days. It will be one birthday present that Alan will never forget, as he turns 10 on May 6th.

Alan claims there will be no girls allowed, which includes his two younger sisters. He has decided that his mother can visit his tree fort.

Michigan's Make-A-Wish foundation grants approximately 400 wishes a year to children in Michigan who have life threatening illnesses. This wish for Alan marks the 5000th wish granted since the organizations beginnings in 1984.

A celebration of the organization's accomplishments will be held in Alan's honor in the community of Brighton on May 17.

The event will be hosted by Michigan's Make-A-Wish Foundation and will meet at the Mill Pond from 5-7:30 p.m. On May 17th. Mill Pond is located at 200 N 1st Street, Brighton, MI 48116

Friends, family and anyone wishing to help Alan's dreams come true may help furnish the inside of his tree house by going to your local Target store and checking out the registry. First name: alan Last name: makeawish

While I never had a "gift" from Make-A-Wish Foundation, I have from a similiar local program way back when I was about 12. It was great. I'm happy for Alan.

I am so glad that people still contribute to such charities, and that children facing such illness are given some sort of joy.
