Ever wondered what more about your ancestors is there out there which you have no idea about? Ancestry is a fascinating about learning not only about your ancestors, but also you. After all, they are family, and a part of what you are right now, and where you are. However, where do you start digging first to learn more about your ancestors, and digging up the past? There are so many resources out there that sometimes you may find it overwhelming just to start; below are 7 ways you can research and check up to trace your family history and ancestry. The basic things you may want to look for are the complete names, addresses, birth records, military service, marriage records, old pictures, etc. The more you know, the more pieces you'll be able to piece together, and the more you'll know about your ancestry, and history because there are bound to be some traces left out there still which just needs a little digging to uncover. If you have legal proof, the better it is.
Interviewing family members
The most obvious ones of course would be interviewing your family members. There are lots that they probably know which you don't. If you have a huge family, don't feel overwhelmed. Start off by drawing a family tree, and then from the top start contacting your family members with questions through any means of communication possible - phone, e-mail, letters, etc. You can also ask them to perhaps look at some of the family items they have to see if there are any new leads you can follow up on. This way is perhaps the easiest, and requires less digging around. Personally, I would recommend asking the older members of the family first as normally they would know more about the history than others although sometimes younger generations may have more knowledge.
