New York Sentinels vs. California Redwoods Preview

The UFL Match-up for October 17th is New York vs. California

The New York Sentinels and the California Redwoods square off in week 2 of the UFL schedule. The New York vs. California match-up is a game between two teams that lost during the first week of UFL action. This becomes a very important match-up for the Sentinels and the Redwoods, because neither team wants to start out the season 0-2. It's definitely a must-win game for both teams, as the UFL season only goes seven weeks in duration before they head to the UFL Championship game on November 27th.

New York Sentinels vs. California Redwoods Keys to the Game

For the Redwoods, the most important thing they will need is a good performance from quarterback Shane Boyd. He struggled in week one to only put up 92 total passing yards. He will have to perform better to accentuate a running game that also struggled, with lead back Cory Ross only putting up 47 yards on 16 carries. California will also have to play better against 3rd down calls from New York, as they failed miserably in stopping Las Vegas last week when it counted the most.

On the New York side of the ball, its all going to come down to the defense and special teams. New York lost in week one by a score of 35-13, but the game didn't even seem that close. Quarterback Quinn Gray needs to come up better with his pass efficiency, and running back Labrandon Toefield needs to break some long runs, but this is all going to come down to whether or not the Sentinels can play defense. They allowed Florida quarterback Brooks Bollinger to complete 20 of 26 passes, and gave up 4.6 yards on the run to a tune of 171 rushing yards against them. Those numbers have to come down for the Sentinels to have any chance.

New York Sentinels vs. California Redwoods Predictions

It looks to be a big week for Sentinels receiver Crasphonso Thorpe against the secondary of the Redwoods. If Quinn Gray can target his man on more than one occasion, they could match up for a number of touchdowns on Saturday. Also look for Murray State alum Nathan Williams to make an impact on the defensive side of the ball.
