Making the transition from stay-at-home mom (SAHM) to work-at-home mom (WAHM) is as much about making money as it is about re-focusing your energy, your time, and how you define yourself.
For SAHMs the rhythm of the day can vary from hectic to total quiet. Activities include child care, child education, attention to child
development, nurse duties, physical development social development, creative development, and lessons in ethics and morals. The more mundane tasks include cooking and preparing at least three meals a day for the family, cleaning (which can be constant with a toddler), being the family accountant, errand runner, and grocery shopper.
For SAHMs, even the busiest ones, there are some quiet moments, believe it or not. Those moments could be in the wee hours before the sun rises, during a baby or toddler;s nap time, while the kids are at school, when a partner comes home an takes over for an hour, or late at night after everyone is sleeping
SAHMs who are accustomed to working full-time may find the adjustment difficult at first. Once the SAHM is comfortable with her routine, and has it down-pat, her mind may start wondering and wandering, and seeking new stimulus. For SAHMs that are avid learners, curious, and communicative, and like to have some extra money, she may start to think about making some money while at home.
Making the transition from SAHM to WAHM is easier than you think. Once you find a paying gig, whether it is child care for Simeon else, getting paid to do errands or book keeping, or a job you found online, at some point, after making money, you will re-define yourself from a SAHM to a WAHM.
When I first started making money as a SAHM, I did not consider the writing I was doing for pay to be work. I did not call myself a WAHM. This could be because work has so long been defined, in my experience as happening in an office, at a proper desk, with a set schedule of when you are there, with set breaks, a boss, and co-workers. Work has a regular paycheck, benefits and lots and lots of meetings.
