Growing Presence of Entertainment Within Churches
A few years ago my family was visiting my aunt and uncle in St. Louis. It just happened to be a weekend and so on Sunday we went to church with my aunt and uncle. My aunt and uncle attend a community church that has thousands of members and on this particular Sunday it just happened to be their church's anniversary celebration. And a celebration it was. They had a band and flag girls and baton girls and all sorts of entertainment. After the service we were heading home and I made the comment to my family that I felt churches might be forced to organize their worship services in the future with entertainment in mind. My comment was more of a thought-provoking statement and not an affirmation of how I believe and as one can imagine it provoked a lot of thought in that moment. I have thought a lot about this comment in the three years since I made it, and I want to briefly explore this issue.
