School of Shock: The Judge Rotenberg Center in Massachusetts

Your Tax Dollars Used to Torture Children

6
Electric shocks. Food deprivation. Isolation. There are kids being tortured in America. Not in abusive homes, not in prison, not in Guantanamo Bay. In a school. In Massachusetts. With your money. At a school called the Judge Rotenberg Center.

This story was reported in Mother Jones. I subscribe to Mother Jones. It's a great journal. I also give them money. But this whole story is online here

Go read it. I hope you have a strong stomach.

Are you back? Did you read it?

In case you didn't, the Judge Rotenberg center is a "school" run by Matt Israel. It's a school for kids with severe problems, but, if they're sent there, their problems are just beginning. It's legal. They even named the place after the judge who said it was legal. And they use extreme electric shocks to "modify the behavior" of children. It's torture. And you're paying for it.

They have the blessings of the parents, too. It's part of a movement that uses these methods to 'condition' children with extreme problems.

The Mother Jones article about the Rotenberg Center is from 2007, and this stuff is still going on, but there have been some developments.

There is a Facebook group of students against the Center

The state psychologist board has reprimanded the director of the Rotenberg Center , although the fine was not so much about the school policies, as over the fact that he said some unlicensed people were licensed.

Action for Autism is trying to close the school down

But, the school still exists. I'm appalled.
