If you don't live near the coast, it is usually hard to find decent fresh seafood. That is certainly the case in San Angelo. There really are only a couple of places where you can get good fresh seafood. One is a fairly upscale restaurant called the Wharf, which is very good, by the way, and the other is Catfish Corner.

Atmosphere

Catfish Corner is basically just your typical small "hole in the wall" restaurant. Some of the best restaurants you will find are these little joints. Catfish corner sits in a small brick building, and the interior is pretty basic and what you would expect from a place that serves fish and seafood. There are pictures of people showing off the fish they caught, for example. It is a very casual place.

Menu

The specialty at Catfish Corner is, you guessed it, catfish. You can get an all-you-can-eat fried catfish dinner for only about $8. Not bad at all. I went for the catfish myself and was glad I did. It was some of the best fried catfish I've had. The hush puppies were very good as well, and those are usually just filler for me.

We also ordered fried pickles, which cost $4.99, as an appetizer. Let me tell you fried pickles are very addicting. The order was very large but we ate the whole batch. They also had quite a few other appetizers to choose from.

My friend ordered a large seafood platter that had fried jumbo shrimp, a catfish fillet, and a stuffed crab. The stuffed crab we both thought was excellent. Yes, I had to try it for myself. My friend did say that the shrimp was average just because it had too much batter on it, making it harder to taste the shrimp. The price for the platter was $12.95. That is not cheap, but certainly very fair.

Overall, the menu is pretty basic at Catfish Corner. You will find a few seafood platters and of course, catfish.

Service

The service was very friendly. We had a very attentive and helpful waitress, and the wait on the food was more than acceptable. Our entrees came out just as we had finished the fried pickles.

Conclusion
