Although it comes with an asterisk, the winning streak that Kiowa Willowwisp now owns at Flagler Greyhound Park in Miami, Florida is impressive nonetheless. Kiowa Willowwisp officially won a Flagler record sixteen consecutive greyhound races before a trouble-filled fifth place finish on April 21st ended the skein. This streak eclipsed the mark set last year by All-American Kiowa Delicate, a greyhound that was able to stay unbeaten in fourteen straight in 2006. Kiowa Willowwisp went two better than that, but if you were to count only the races this superb racer has run at Flagler and discount her misadventures at Wheeling Downs and Hollywood, the number grows to almost unbelievable proportions. In all, Kiowa Willowwisp won twenty-six races consecutively at Flagler in this manner, all Grade As, and thirty straight if you add in her four schooling efforts!

In the world of greyhound racing, such a streak would be equivalent to a forty-something game hitting streak in baseball. Kiowa Willowwisp broke in at Flagler in June of 2006 and did so well that her handlers decided she could compete at a better venue; in her case she was moved to Wheeling in West Virginia. But she was ticketed for fighting with other dogs while running down the stretch there and returned to Flagler , where she proceeded to win ten in a row before she was tried once more back at Wheeling.

Another fighting ticket sent Willowwisp to Hollywood, also in Miami, where she took no time at all to get in trouble and be given an interference. Banished back to the one track where for some reason this fifty-nine pound brindle speedball out of Craigie Whistler and Kiowa Tom Long does not fight with the other racers, she took advantage of the situation and ripped off one win after another. These weren't closely contested races either; the least amount of lengths that Kiowa Willowwisp beat the best that Flagler could throw at her during this time period was four and a half lengths!
