If you are reading this article it is probably because you have a sick fish. There are many different possible problems that your fish may have. Alot of the time most fish will have a few problems, not just one disease. I will list all of the possible illnesses that I can think of and the best treatments. You need to act quickly and get your fish treated as soon as possible. Every day will make a difference. You need to check your fish over at least once a day so that you spot the problems before they get too bad to cure. If it's too late to help your fish out, don't be hard on yourself. With so many causes of diseases, it's very hard to keep your fish healthy. With any illness you should set up a quarantine tank.

ICH (treatable): If your fish has the appearance of having white salt all over the fish than your fish has ich. You will need to go to the petstore and purchase medication for ich. Make sure that if it says to take the filters out, you do so. Otherwise you will be medicating your fish for nothing. Ich is a bacterial infection and usually leads to fin rot. I would suggest using Maracyn One and Two at the same time. This will prevent fin rot if your fish don't have it already. I would suggest using aquariam salt and bumping the water temperature up to around 82 degrees.

FIN ROT (treatable): If your fish has the appearance of frayed fins or shrinking fins than your fish has fin rot. Fin rot and Ich usually come hand in hand and are usually very quick diseases. In 7 days all of your fish could be dead if they are not treated quick enough. You can purchase what's called RID-Ich or you can buy Maracyn One and Maracyn Two. Maracyn is best used with both medications at the same time. Make sure to remove carbon. Fin rot looks like split fins and the fins may also have a red streaked appearance. You will need to buy aqarium salt and bump up the temperature to about 82 degrees.

Takeaways
  • Most illnesses are treatable.
  • Treat your fish as soon as possible.
  • Make sure to look at the fish at least once per day.
