Sad Kermit is a new sensation that is sweeping the Internet, and has both the potential to be a forgotten quickie craze, or a marketable franchise for years to come. There are many people that are getting behind this unauthorized movement, and many that are against it.
In March of this year, the video entitled, "Sad Kermit," hit YouTube. It portrays Kermit the Frog singing Johnny Cash's version of, "Hurt," by Nine Inch Nails. In the video, Kermit is seen taking drugs, smoking, drinking, committing sexual acts, and attempting suicide. The website, www.sadkermit.com produced this video.
The video has sparked many response videos, and exploratory videos. According to the current story online, Kermit is going through a very rough time in his life right now.
According to the storyline of Sad Kermit, Kermit started becoming very depressed after Jim Henson died. This led to his alcohol and drug abuse. Miss Piggy left him because she could no longer deal with the frog that he had become.
This sent Kermit into an even deeper state of depression. This caused him to abuse alcohol even more. This has also led him to thought of suicide. Sad Kermit is distraught over the fact that he has to do car commercials just to pay the mortgage on his lily pad.
Currently, Sad Kermit is trying to get a grip on his life, by going through therapy. There are videos on YouTube that are covering his therapy sessions. You can also make a donation to pay for Sad Kermit's sessions at www.sadkermit.com.
On the website, a Sad Kermit fan will find other songs that the frog has recorded. You will find, "The Rainbow Disconnection," "Creep," by Radiohead, "Twilight," by Elliot Smith and other songs. You can also request a sad song for Sad Kermit to perform.
There is a link on the site to Sad Kermit merchandise. According to the site, this will be a useable link very soon. T-shirts can only make the site more popular.

I don't see what's wrong with SadKermit, it's reigniting a love for Kermit from his older fans. And, any of the musicians should be honored to have an icon like Kermit cover their songs. The one's that are still alive, anyways.
I heard Disney might do a Muppet movie with some of the guys from the Judd Apatow crew, which will clearly have an appeal to older audiences (though, i'm sure it'll be kept family friendly), so they should be loving this that a whole new group of people will probably go see it.
Also, every now and then, this is just the kind of thing to pick up your spirits when you're depressed as all hell.

I grew up on Sesame street muppet show. Those shows sufficed in entertaining my innocence for years. Now that I am all grown up sadkermit appeals to my "real world" sensibilities and helps me cope with changes I went through during the corruption of that innocence over the years.

Parodies of famous cartoon characters are nothing new NOR are they illegal. I would certainly think that someone with the ingenuity, cleverness and talent that came up with the SadKermit idea would see the necessity of obtaining legal consultation/representation.
How very sad if Disney does go after this individual. Once again, the average citizen is swallowed up by the big corporate $machine$. Shame on Disney if they do, and IF they do, maybe people will protest. I KNOW I will.
I love the video's and the unique, clever take on this.
The person behind this video owes me a LOT of money for my upcoming therapy sessions.
I actually felt really sad when I saw that. (I was a Muppets kid.)
It's an interesting argument in that, you can be sold stuffed kermits, yet can you use them in exercising your freedom of expression.
Veronika Fevers tipped me off to this hilarious video I know have downloaded. Hilarious! And yeah, I wondered about the copyright infringement aspect of it. Didn't know the video had become as big as it has. Good article.
Oh man, I saw this video a couple of weeks ago. It's pure genius. I wish I had a Kermit puppet.
oh that is hilarious. And I thought it was great when Johnny cash decided to cover hurt, add kermit and its even better! LOL thanks for this, still needing laughs.
