When you are driving thru a construction zone in many states, it is mandatory to turn on your headlights. In broad daylight, I wonder why that would be necessary? There are are many cars that do not have automatic beepers that tell people that their lights are still on. Many of the newer cars do, but a lot of the older ones do not let people know that they have left their lights on. When it is broad daylight and they travel thru constuction areas, they might leave their lights on by mistake and run down their batteries.

Some laws seem a bit strange and that one seems odd to many people. There should be a better explanation for having to turn on your headlights in designated areas for construction, because there just does not seem to be a clear cut purpose for the laws. Understanding the need for reduced speed limits in those areas is more than understandable, but perhaps better explanations for the headlights needs to be addressed. What is the purpose? If there is not one then why do people have to turn on their headlights when they are passing thru construction areas in the light of day? It seems that there must be a reason, but one that is puzzling for many people.

Hello all and thanks for commenting. I think it is best for all to turn headlights in the morning and that way they never have to worry about getting a ticket if they forget to turn them on in construction zones. Safest way to go. Have a good night and day everyone.

A car with lights on is more visible to everyone; this is why many newer cars' lights turn on automatically when the engine is turned on. In a construction zone, it is important that all drivers be aware of all other cars to minimize the risk of collisions which could hurt bystanders (i.e., construction workers.) It seems like a reasonable law to me.
