Veto power: President's hand was forced

"This legislation respects the wishes of the American people to end the Iraq war", said the Democrats.

They had passed the legislation for 124 billion dollars, spending money on Iraq war. They also included in it a set date by which American troops should withdraw from Iraq.

"No American President ever announced 'Mission Accomplished' when the mission had barely begun", said New York Senator, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

She was vehemently referring to the Presidential address four years back, on 1st May 2003, from the flight deck of the aircraft carrier, Abraham Lincoln.

President Bush announced, that day, among other things, 'mission accomplished': the dictator, Saddam Hussein, was deposed by the invading forces led by US troops. That was four years ago.

"Trumped up political stunt", the White House hit back, "that is the height of cynicism", it said.

"It makes no sense to tell the enemy, when you plan to start withdrawing troops", said the President when he vetoed that legislative bill.

This is the second time George Bush has made use of the Presidential Veto power. That's a fairly good record for a man who is daily vilified in the media and portrayed as almost another dictator.

That 'Falling George Bush' on the Internet is an unforgivable ridicule. It makes one's blood boil to see the Leader of World's only Super Power being made to tumble down helplessly in all stupid angles.

In many lesser countries people have been condemned to death for far lesser comments in private. But this is on Internet for the whole world see and laugh.

This shows the power of "Freedom". And the bigness, greatness, the magnitude of the broadmindness of our American people.

In a tiny south-east asian country, the leader of a group of 'freedom fighters' ordered the elimination of the secretary of a political party for mentioning the lower caste of the so-called-leader in an entirely private conversation.

Takeaways
  • President Bush is vilified daily in media, rarely he uses veto,
  • Congress forced his hand, set date of withdrawal,
Did You Know?
The President Bush is a very lenient man. He rarely uses his veto power. But Congress forced his hand by setting a date for withdrawal.
