Kids of all ages enjoy creating unique works of art, and most kids would agree that finger paints are one of their favorite mediums for producing beautiful designs. Finger paint allows kids to literally get into their artwork, and finger paint is fun to use. Gooey finger paints are fun to spread on paper, and no other type of art allows kids to get messy and mix colors in quite the same way.

Many parents don't allow their kids to use finger paints at home because they don't want to clean up the mess, and understandably, parents don't want to find clothing and furniture permanently stained. Fortunately, washable finger paints are available, but store-bought containers are typically small and don't last very long. Instead of buying costly washable paint, parents can make larger quantities of homemade washable finger paints in a rainbow of fun colors.

Try the following easy recipe for homemade washable finger paints for kids. These homemade finger paints turn out just as good or better than store-bought finger paints, and best of all they are completely washable. In addition, they are much less expensive than small containers of store-bought finger paints. These homemade washable finger paints are perfect for day care centers, classrooms, and for use at home.

Necessary Supplies

To make a 6-cup batch of washable paint you'll need 2 envelopes of unflavored gelatin, 2 cups of cold water, 1-½ cups of cornstarch, 4 cups of hot water, and 1 cup of Ivory Snow powdered laundry soap. You'll also need washable liquid tempera paints of various colors, a saucepan, spoon, mixing bowl, and ½ cup containers with tight-fitting lids.
