Could poor hygiene eventually lead to death and eventually make it to the top ten leading causes of death in America? Poor oral hygiene is now being linked to some causes of death among children and adults. The importance in taking care of your child's teeth is crucial. As they reach adult hood and they have not practiced good oral hygiene, could mean death for them in the future.

Some parents use the excuse of not having the money to take their child to a dentist. It is up to you the parent to make sure your child's teeth are cared for. Helping your child in brushing their teeth twice a day and flossing will lesson their chances of getting tooth decay. Dentist are mainly needed for teeth cleaning, fillings etc. If you make sure your child is brushing and flossing correctly, they shouldn't get tooth decay. For infants, after bottle-feeding your infant formula, before bedtime it is best to wipe your child's gums off with a damp cloth. If they are old enough to drink water without choking, give them a water bottle so the water can wash the formula off their gums.

There have been cases where young adults have died from heart attacks. The leading cause of this heart attack was bad oral hygiene, tooth decay, plaque build up, and rotten teeth. The most recent case of a child's death was due to a "bad tooth". The infection from this tooth went to the little boy's brain, killing him.

Many children when they are sent to the bathroom to brush their teeth unsupervised, are done within 30 seconds. Young children need to be supervised when brushing their teeth, or the parent needs to brush the child's teeth for them. This will ensure the child's teeth are being brushed correctly.

Although it is crucial you make regular dentist visits and keep up with check-up. This will allow you to hear it from your dentist himself, that you're doing a good job on your oral hygiene. It is also important to ask your dentist about giving your child fluoride tablets. Making sure your child brushes twice daily, flosses, and takes fluoride tablets, will reduce his or her chances of having tooth decay.

Good article! Another important point is that babies should NEVER be left alone with a bottle that's propped up for them. First of all, they could choke; secondly, this can lead to "nursing bottle syndrome" or "baby bottle tooth decay", where the baby's front teeth become badly decayed from the sugar that's naturally present in milk.

great article. I think this should be made aware of to everyone. I had a brother who was in perfect health. Two years ago he passed away from a heart attack at 28. After reading this I wonder if this could be the cause of his passing. He had bad teeth and never went to get them fixed.
