I got a BSEd and started out subbing. It is fun to be around the kids, but tough. Substituting requires a very tough skin and the ability to think and react quickly with little or no guidance from the classroom teacher. Apply with the school district you'd like to live in and go from there. Substituting is great, but not even close to as easy as it seems. Good luck! If you have the ambition and strength you'll be a great substitute and a better teacher!

I have been substitute teaching in the same school district for 7 years. I love the flexibility, the challenges of new kids and different classes, and the fact that the school district I work for treats me equally (they are one big family and they make me feel apart of that family). Yes the downside is I don't get paid for days I don't work, and I don't get holiday pay and I don't get paid over the summer, I do find ways to fill those empty places, because it is so rewarding to subsitute. If you have any questions for me, email me at bettybuup@yahoo.com

I love substitute teaching. However, there are no benefits. I just can't afford to work that way. Though, again, I love it...

Teaching, subbing included, is an endeavor that should be taken far more seriously than you're suggesting.
