The grass is always greener on the other side. Most single people look at couples with envy and wish they had a partner to share everything with, and keep them from feeling lonely. There comes a point when we feel we must settle down (I think it's all hormone related) but instead of feeling sorry for ourselves, as single people, lets look at all the great things we do have that make couples think our grass is greener.

Our time is our own.

We can do what we want, when we want; we don't have to ask permission or check in with anyone. We don't have to find out what another wants to do. We can do whatever our heart's desire, for as long as we care to. Last minute plans don't bother us. We need only consult ourselves, to decide if we want to join in or not.

We don't have to worry about bad breath or body hair.

So what if you're getting a little shaggy? Legs aren't smooth as silk? Face got some stubble? No big deal. Like Garlic? Want raw onions on your burger? Go for it. No one has to smell your stinky breath except you.

We keep what we earn.

The money we earn goes straight into our pockets, except what the government reaps of course. We can spend everything on ourselves or sock it away for later. We don't have to share with anyone, if we don't want to. Treat yourself to a movie, a ballgame, a concert everything will cost half as much as it would on a date.

Your space is your space and no one elses.'

We can decorate anyway we see fit. Are you messy? Got a bunch of clutter? So What? You're the only one who has to live in it. We never need to ask for space or try to get some alone time. Want to watch a ridiculously stupid show on TV? No one will mock you for it. Want to crank your music and dance around naked in your living room? Why not, there's no one there to tell you to turn it down or put some clothes on.

We can travel where ever we want.

We don't have to coordinate a trip with a second schedule and we don't have to compromise on where we'd like to go. Want to visit your relatives for the holidays? Go ahead. Want to get as far away from your relatives as possible? Why not? You don't have to visit someone else's relatives either.

I LOVE it all! I've been struggling lately with being happy with myself and the fact that I am single. This helps me to focus on the needs and wants within me that I've let go of in a relationship. Thanks for this advice =D

Good artcile and well written! I'm right there on the other green side of the pasture, happily married for 15 years - but I think you're right that single people should make the most of their freedom, enjoy themselves and do what they want to do before settling down - which also has some great benefits - including a 'bed' buddy on demand!!! Write more!!!

Great article! I can add one more. NO one to NIT PICK you to death. I know women usually get accused of this, but I'm very laid back, and always seem to find the Perfectionistic, Nit Pickers. I don't miss them for a minute!

Being Single does have it's benefits, and I do enjoy them, but I could name just as many benefits of not being single, that are just as good. So, the grass is just as green on either side.
