A Story of Ugandan Martyrs - "It's Time to Ask Yourself What You Believe"
This title is a line in a famous movie. A son approaches extreme danger to save his dying father; only faith will carry him through. He knows the right thing to do, but if he doesn't believe it enough to live it, both he and his father will die. This story is the end of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. "Dr. Jones" does believe, and does not waver at the crucial the moment, and he is saved along with his father.
How many people face moments of crisis? Everyone, eventually. But only a handful hold firmly to their faith at these junctures. This issue is as old as humanity itself: Adam and Eve. For a while, they believed and obeyed God's command to not eat the fruit. But their faith failed them when they should have believed that God was loving them fully. They thought God was cheating them out of some special knowledge. And the rest is history.
Hypocrisy invades every soul. No one can escape its tests forever. Someday, you must affirm or deny God. Accept or reject creation. Prove your biases or objectivity. A point of no return will come in which you either act upon your belief, or because of fear, doubt, or laziness, you do not act. For instance, if you uphold creationism, what do you tell your evolutionist friend, or do you merely hear his opinion and offer no alternative? Or if your family cracks racial jokes, do you ask them to stop, or do you passively laugh alongside them?
One of our society's greatest problems today is lukewarm, hypocritical people, whether in church, politics, or family. People claim conviction on cascades of problems, but when the test of true belief comes, many falter. They evidently don't trust in their sentiments enough to do much about them, or else they are not trained well enough to confidently communicate them. Why even comply with a view if you are unwilling to live it? The result is inaction, apathy, and weakness.
