Camping and More Along North Fork of Pound River Lake

The Cane Patch Camping Area is located in Jefferson National Forest and lies along North Fork of Pound River Lake in southwest Virginia. The Cane Patch Camping Area offers access to a number of recreational pursuits on
the lake as well in the surrounding Jefferson National Forest. Cane Patch Camping Area is operated by the Clinch Ranger District of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests.

The Cane Patch Camping Area offers 35 camping sites, sites with hookups for RVs are available. Each camping site at Cane Patch Camping Area provides the camper with parking spur, picnic table, and grill or fire ring. Showers, restrooms, drinking water, and a sump station are also provided at Cane Patch Camping Area. RVs of up to 40 feet are permitted. The campground also provides basketball and volleyball courts and playground equipment. There are also open fields for game playing near the campground. An attendant is on duty at Cane Patch Camping Area if you need assistance.

The primary draw at Cane Patch Camping Area is the close proximity to North Fork of Pound River Lake. North Fork of Pound River Lake is just over 150 acres and there is good access to the lake as the surrounding land is all National Forest land. There are two boat ramps onto the lake in the area near Wise (which is closer) and Pound, Virginia. Canoes, kayaks, and other small boats can of course be launched from various areas around the lake. Regardless of boat, the lake is entirely 'no wake'. Bass, musky, walleye, crappie and other game fish are fished for in North Fork of Pound River Lake. North Fork of Pound River Lake is great for bank fisherman as numerous small coves and other terrain features provides good access from the bank via the hiking trails around the lake. The North Fork of Pound River below the lake's dam is stocked with trout by the State of Virginia. Numerous other streams and impoundments in the area provide more fishing opportunities. Hunting is also available in Jefferson National Forest.
