Botticelli's Ristorante in Rapid City, South Dakota Restaurant Review
Botticelli's Ristorante located at 523 Main Street in downtown Rapid City is centrally located with a charming, friendly atmosphere. It is a quiet, comfortable restaurant with friendly waiters, crisp white tablecloths and colorful, Italian themed murals on the walls.
Meals start out with soft, fresh bread to dip in olive oil (with balsamic vinegar, if you request it). The wine list is extensive, and waitstaff can usually recommend something good. Bottles of wine are half-price on Tuesdays, so that is when I usually go.
I am a vegetarian, so I skip the veal dishes and so on, but there are still plenty of options. I really enjoy the gorgonzola salad with walnuts and fresh greens if I go there for lunch, or one of the pizzas -- thin crust, fresh toppings -- for dinner. The pasta dishes are tasty, but usually far too much for one meal. The pizzas are small, single serving size, and toppings range from goat cheese to artichokes and more.
Prices are very reasonable for an upscale restaurant, even though for Rapid City, South Dakota, the prices seem high when compared to other restaurants in this area. A full meal for two, with wine, usually runs about $50, but it could be more if you're a heavy drinker or if you try the veal or other higher end dishes.
They play classical music or Italian operas on the sound system, usually. Botticelli has a back room that can be reserved for special events; I work at a small local business, and we occasionally hold events and parties there.
The service can be slow at times, but I always find the food is more than worth it. I don't know how authentic it really is, but it really is some of the best Italian food you will find in western South Dakota -- which is really in the middle of nowhere.
Lunchtime service is much quicker than dinner, so this is a good spot for a nice business lunch. They also have lunch specials during the week, although not on weekends. The restaurant is non smoking, and so is the little bar area at the front end, so the whole place smells fragrant of garlic and wine and fresh baked bread.
