How to Make Sorcerer's Hats for the Harry Potter Themed Kids Birthday Party

What Harry Potter themed kid's birthday party would be complete without the requisite sorcerer's hat? Birthday parties traditionally include birthday hats anyway, so
why not incorporate this Harry Potter sorcerer's hat into the party's activities.

Before setting up the materials for the sorcerer's hat at the party, it is a good idea for an adult to make the first one for the Harry Potter themed birthday party. By making one first, you can see how much preparation will need to be done in advance, for each hat. It will also give you an idea of how long it will take to complete the construction of the birthday hats.

Party throwers (yes, parents, that means you) can construct the actual hats before the party. The most challenging aspect of making the hat is the measuring. You will need the posterboard, the pencil, a ruler, and your child to sit and be measured with the hat.

Draw a triangle on the posterboard, starting with a point at the top, like a pyramid. Each side of the triangle should measure 12 inches. The bottom of the triangle should measure 18 inches, which should be ample size for a child's head.

Before cutting out the triangle, change the bottom 18 line into a curved line, like an elongated "u." This will form the rounded part of the hat, the part that fits on the child's head. Try the hat on your child's head to adjust the measurements, before making the rest of the hat bases.
