During the current global warming crisis, an ever-increasing amount of companies, towns, homeowners and government officials are recognizing the need to go green in order to save on energy costs as well as preserve our planet and its natural resources.

The latest advocate to join the fight against global warming is Steve Jobs, pledging that his company Apple Inc., maker of Macintosh computers and popular iPod products, will go green.

After facing criticism from environmental watchdog groups who claim that Apple Inc. has not done enough in regards to recycling and removing harmful toxins and chemicals from its products, Steve Jobs recently posted a message on the Apple website under the link for "A Greener Apple".

The message begins by stating "Apple has been criticized by some environmental organizations for not being a leader in removing toxic chemicals from its new products, and for not aggressively or properly recycling its old products. Upon investigating AppleÕs current practices and progress towards these goals, I was surprised to learn that in many cases Apple is ahead of, or will soon be ahead of, most of its competitors in these areas. Whatever other improvements we need to make, it is certainly clear that we have failed to communicate the things that we are doing well."

The message then goes on to detail some of the plans on how Apple will remove toxic chemicals such as arsenic and lead from their products, as well as product recycling, while making comparisons to other companies that still produce products with many of the same toxic chemicals.

The recycling plan is impressive, with promises to collect unwanted Apple products to be disposed of in a way that is environmentally friendly. Steve Jobs promises annual updates on Apple Inc.'s plan to go green, with clearer messages about the company's future plans and environmental strategies, closing the message with the following statement:
