Boondock Saints 2 Release Date Finally Approaches

The Boondock Saints 2 release date is almost here, to the delight of the Boondock Saints cult. The Boondock Saints 2 release date almost looked like it would never arrive, for various reasons. But The Boondock Saints 2 release date will be this Friday, as the vigilante MacManus brothers return for All Saints Day and one more murderous cleansing of Boston. 10 years after the first film, The Boondock Saints 2 release date is finally set.

Many hard-core movie fans know the story, on and off screen, of The Boondock Saints. Or at least, they know about its writer and director, Troy Duffy. In 1999, Duffy positioned himself as the next Quentin Tarantino, as he went from bartender to screenwriter with the ultra violent Boondock Saints.

10 years later, Duffy is in comeback mode with The Boondock Saints 2 release date. The original movie had a major cult base fanbase, as it told the story of two brothers who cleaned up the scum of Boston by slaughtering the criminal underworld. Now, their latest mission from God brings them out of hiding from Ireland, as the MacManus brothers return to Boston after their old priest is killed.

The last Boondock Saints was one of the more wild shoot-em-ups of the 90's, with Willem Dafoe chewing up whatever scenery the bullets didn't destroy. Dafoe's gay cop isn't in the sequel, though the likes of Peter Fonda and Judd Nelson are. Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus reprise their roles as the MacManus brothers, with Billy Connelly, who played the even more deadly "Il Duce" also back.

As The Boondock Saints 2 release date approaches, it also gives people another chance to recount the rise and fall of Duffy. The now infamous 2003 documentary Overnight turned Duffy into a living joke and nightmare, with his wild and egotistical antics. The Boondock Saints was expected to turn Duffy into the next big thing, but he shot himself in the foot too many times for that to happen. Now his last shot at redemption is a sequel to his only movie.
